“I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”
John 16:28 (ESV)
Jesus Knew His Final Destination
As this verse reveals, Jesus knew what His final destination was.
He knew that He had come from the Father and would soon be returning to the Father. That knowledge informed the way that He lived.
Jesus lived a purposeful, focused life, knowing that upon returning to God He would have to give an account of the work He had been given to do. (John 17:4)
As it was prophesied in Isaiah 61:1-2; Jesus preached the gospel to the poor and healed the broken hearted. He proclaimed liberty to the captives, opened the eyes of the blind and proclaimed the acceptable year of the Lord.
Jesus spent His whole life doing this work and only when it was complete, did He reach His final destination.
We too have a final destination.
But do you know what your final destination is?
Do You Know Your Final Destination?
The Bible informs us that there are two destinations awaiting everyone on earth, eternal life or eternal condemnation. Heaven or hell. (John 5:29) But it is what you do here on earth that will determine where you end up.
When you know your final destination, it will affect the way you live. If you desire to avoid eternal damnation and awake to eternal life, you will live a life that reflects that.
Just like Jesus, you will live a focused, purposeful and God-honouring life. You will diligently do the work you have been given to do.
We All Have Work to Do
God has given all of us work to do. This work is in accordance with Jesus’ final commandment to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15 NKJV)
But the way in which each of us fulfils this commandment will be different.
Not all of us are called to be pastors or prophets. However, all of us can preach the Gospel in every area of our personal lives, whether it is in business, on set, in the class or at home.
There are people in your life that you can heal, comfort and bring Christ’s light to, from family members to neighbours and strangers.
Anywhere and everywhere you can do God’s work.
This is what a purposeful life looks like for a Christian
Living a Purposeful Life
For Christians, a purposeful life is one spent going about God’s business. (Luke 2:49)
Is this the kind of life you are living?
Is this the kind of life you desire to live?
If so, you can begin by seeking the Lord diligently every day (Jeremiah 29:13) and letting yourself be led by His Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:14)
As you do, God will guide you into your unique calling. He will also enable you, equip you and show you how to do His work diligently, right up until you reach your final destination.
Life is a Journey to the Final Destination
As Christians, our entire lives are a journey towards the final destination; a journey towards heaven.
Great rewards await the one who completes the journey and diligently does God’s work. (Matthew 25:23, 2 Timothy 4:8, Revelation 21:7)
You can be the person who is granted those great rewards.
You can be the one to awake to eternal life and receive the crown of glory.
But, it all depends on whether or not you live the kind of life that will lead to that. It all depends on whether or not you do and complete the work God has given you.
Are you doing that?
If not, why not start today?
Start Your Journey Today
Start your journey today.
Start living a life that brings glory to God today.
Surrender to His will and start going about your Father’s business as the Holy Spirit leads you.
And as you do, know that after you have you have stood in the face of trials and persecution, after you have done all the work you have been given, your final destination will be more glorious and beautiful than you could have ever imagined.
