Has something happened to you that has robbed you of who you really are?
Find your heart: lessons from Moana
I watched Moana at least 5 times because my little nephew loved it. He also loves Auntie and that means I was his watch buddy from the third time onwards. I have to say I’ve never been a big fan of animation movies. This one struck me some kinda way because I found myself singing along especially to Maui and Tamatoa. It was a great movie with much to teach.
Moana instructs Maui to let Te Ka, the lava demon pass through the clearing in the sea. Te Ka, crawls fiercely toward Moana and for a moment it looks like she will meet her end. Moana has discovered something that was neatly tucked away in the plot. Te Ka is really Te Feti devoid of her stolen heart. Once she reunited with it all that was raging in her becomes still and peace is found again.
Lesson 1: – not all monsters started out as monsters.
Life doesn’t happen in a straight line and this is where hurt creeps in and makes monsters. Grace gives us hope that even monsters can be redeemed and pure hearts restored. Is there something you’ve done in monster mode that makes you cringe every time you think about it? Take it to God and talk to Him about it. He knows just what to do and you’ll be so much better for it.
Lesson 2: – you can’t establish your true value by asking those around you.
This is not a conscious conversation which is why most times we don’t realise that’s what we’re doing. People mean well most of the time but are just people after all, prone to judgements from their own experiences. In Moana’s case her Father had experienced a trauma that made him so set in his ways.
Lesson 3: – your story can be a truth to set others free if you choose to own it.
There is nothing new under the sun and I’m sure many stories seem the same. The beauty about the way we were made is that your story has never been told/lived by you until now. The gist may be the same but there will always be something unique that comes from the way you share/live it. There is and has always been a purpose for your life today. My prayer for you is to be comforted when the going gets tough, may you be made tougher by the God who can. Amen
Lesson 4: – redemption is for all who choose it.
Maui had a chip on his shoulder but he made the choice to make right what he had done wrong. It took many trials and some disappointment along the way but he stood his ground and was rewarded for it. Condemnation is the enemy’s tool to keep you focused on your limitations. Whereas God’s forgiveness is His tool to show how He loves and does not regret you.
Lesson 5: – everyone needs a crazy chicken.
I think humour was God’s idea and that’s why we all ned that one Hei Hei in our lives. The one who can dry up a well of tears with ridiculous dry jokes. The one who fumbles the ball much to our amusement and the one who makes us feel a little less awkward about ourselves. My little sister is my crazy chicken and she makes my life that much more liveable. There have been times I was ready to quit but she won’t let me.
