There’s good news and bad news
The bad news is that heartache is an unavoidable part of life and we all endure it at some point. The good news, however, is that God is bigger than any bad news you’ll ever get. This life is filled with ups and downs but that shouldn’t discourage or rob us of our joy. Instead it should make us proud conquerors when God raises us above it. Here are some tips to safeguard our hearts as we do life:
Stop second guessing your radar
We are quick to complain when we end up nursing a broken heart but ignore warnings from the Holy Spirit. I’ve lamented over disappointments that happened when I had a sense of knowing that something was wrong. The problem is that I leaned too heavily on my own understanding and did what made sense based on it. In this season I’m learning to let go and trust that God knows what He is doing even if I don’t. There’s such a peace in knowing that the Great I Am is on your side no plan is fuller proof than that.
Anyone who makes you feel like their doing you a favour by loving you is not for you
I’m tempted to emphasize this in capitals because the number of times we walk into this one is amazing. You see guys all but selling their liver to impress girls and you’ll see girls all but sell their souls to guys. The irony is that the harder the person doesn’t love them the harder they try to earn the love. May God give us the eyes to see repeating cycles and break them. This is one I’ve personally battled with because of some misguided beliefs God and I are working on.
Give your heart to the one who gave it to you
The bible instructs us to guard our hearts jealously. Why do you think that is? It is known that when the enemy attacks that’s where he starts. When you are discouraged enough you are easy pickings for a cunning lion. Most times he doesn’t even need to show up in person he just knocks down one domino and viola. I wish we could conduct a survey of all the people who gave up when their hearts were broken. We might find it wasn’t because they wanted to give up but their broken hearts couldn’t see a way out.
When you give your heart to God, He knows exactly what to do with it because He gave it to you. Think about it. Your heart is the reason why against your better judgement you will share your last meal with a stranger. Your heart is the reason why you will honour your wife with fidelity. Your heart is the reason why you can go for months of limited sleep to care for a baby. See where I’m going with this?
Matters of the heart are more important than I can express I just hope that this is helping somebody. I’ve found help in places I never expected, and I know its because God touches hearts in a special way.
Never give up hope in good things coming to you
For a couple of months now I’ve been in this weird slump of shapeshifting misery. One day its exhaustion, the next day its conflict and the day after that its financial pressure. I just haven’t been able to catch a break and I caught myself souring a conversation with it. It’s one thing to criticize negative talkers and another to be the negative talker. My hope was slipping away but God isn’t about to let me go just like that. By writing this message today I feel hope returning just because I shared with you its importance. While I’m alive all I have is hope NaMwari zvinototi zviite chete ‘with God it has no excuse but to work out for my good’.
Be encouraged, keep in good cheer and make God the centre of your life He IS worthy.
