Life can be very hectic. There is always so much you have to do and get done. Laundry or essays, work or shopping; at the home or at the office, everyone is always running around. Sometimes it can get overwhelming just trying to fit in all the work you need to do into one day. It can be a battle just to get some sense of order into your life.
But there is no need to fear. As Christians we are more than conquerors in all things (Romans 8:37) and God has not left us helpless. The Lord knows we need to work and He is all about helping us do that and do it well. That is why He has given us His Holy Spirit as a Helper, a Helper who can guide you in all things and bring order to your days.
The Holy Spirit is Your Helper
On the night that Jesus was preparing to take up the cross and leave his disciples, He spoke to them and promised that, although He was leaving them, He was not leaving them alone. Jesus told his disciples that He would pray to the Father who would give them a Helper, who would abide with them forever, and dwell with them and in them. (John 14:16-17)
This Helper is the Holy Spirit, and He was not just promised to the early century believers but He is promised to us as well. The Holy Spirit will also dwell and abide in us forever. And, as His name suggests, He is the one who will help you when it comes to godly things, but also in ordering your everyday life.
The Holy Spirit Will Help You Order Your Days
The Holy Spirit has the same knowledge, wisdom and understanding as God (Isaiah 11:2) and He imparts it to you. This knowledge, wisdom and understanding is what you then use when finding ways to structure and order your days.
But when we speak of structuring and ordering it doesn’t necessarily mean He will help you make a more improved, super schedule that helps you supernaturally get things done. No. The Holy Spirit brings order when you simply let yourself be directed by Him.
Let the Holy Spirit Direct You
In the book of Proverbs it says
“A man’s heart plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV))
This is what the Holy Spirit does, He directs your steps. The Holy Spirit is the one who guides and teaches and leads, and He is the One you must turn to when you want to order to your everyday life.
When you let the Holy Spirit direct you it means that instead of leaning on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5) of how things should work, or how the day should get done, you surrender to the Spirit of the Lord. You pray and ask for His guidance and direction as to what you must do for the day.
It sounds simple. But the effect it will have your life is amazing.
The Holy Spirit can tell you something as simple as what time you should hand in an assignment or what shop you should do your groceries in. He can even guide in bigger areas like how to handle a business deal or pay off a debt. And with this direction He will also give you the perfect timing.
The Holy Spirit Has Perfect Timing
Sometimes the things you want to do don’t need to be done on the same day. But as humans looking at things through our mortal eyes, it doesn’t always seem that way. Especially when getting pressure from outside forces.
But, if you let Him, the Holy Spirit will tell you exactly when you should do something. It could be days, weeks or even months from when you were planning to do it. But because the Spirit of the Lord is in control it will all come together.
Just remember, that when it comes to the being led by the Holy Spirit, He sees and knows what is in the future. You don’t. So if He says wait, wait. If He says go, go. Don’t worry or over think it, just trust Him.
Trust the Holy Spirit
It may sound a bit radical or even scary to surrender control to the Spirit. But you shouldn’t be afraid to do so.
The Lord’s ways are higher than our own (Isaiah 55: 8-9) and His understanding is far superior to our own. He is the Creator of the heavens and earth and He sees and knows all things. If that’s the case, you don’t need to be afraid to trust His all-knowing Spirit to direct you and order your days.
The Holy Spirit is most definitely the most trustworthy guide in the world. You can trust Him to help you to get everything done at the correct time and in time. It’s simply a matter of rising every morning, praying and then listening to what He is saying to you about your day.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
When you take the time to pause and listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying, you will find that your days will move more smoothly and less stressfully than they did before.
You will also realise that with almost no effort on your part, your days have become more ordered and successful. That is because of the work of the Holy Spirit. His guidance is what will bring supernatural peace and control (Galatians 5:22-23) and order to your days. All you need to do is trust Him and obey.
