There are times i would open  my twitter or facebook or especially instagram account and i’d be left feeling sad, behind, basically like my life is clearly not flourishing as it should. The thing is, i truly rejoice in other people’s successes, no “hateration” there, but i sometimes i cannot help but compare my life to that of a friend or colleague’s and wonder where i am with my own life and my goals and i feel a little depressed.

I had an interesting discovery while playing Need For Speed Most Wanted the other day. It was a sprint race, at the beginning of the race just as i was accelerating and adding my nitro i noticed a shortcut to my left i decided i was going to take it, i did and it took me to the number one spot when i got back into the main lanes. The race was going well until i started to check my rear view mirror to see where the other cars were, i lost concentration on my actual race, i tried to get back in the race, but i crashed and that pulled me back to the last position and all i could see was the dust created by other cars overtaking me. For some reason this got me thinking about the time i spend looking over to see what others are doing and comparing my life to theirs instead of focusing on my own life and “staying in my lane”literally.

While i may not always crash and burn as in the game, but i’d have lost something really valuable, something that cannot be replaced, TIME. Time that i could use to better myself, work on my goals and learn more to improve myself or business. Time wasted worrying about how far i was from reaching certain goals, mistake i’d made that took me off the course and opportunities missed. I thought to myself, but who am i living my life for? Why does it matter so much to fit into society’s standards? Who set those standards? Do they fit into the story of my life? Is it what God intends for me?

Is it okay to compare AND LEARN from other people’s successes, yes, i definitely think so, it’s healthy; as long as you know that we are each running our own unique races, taking our individual paths with our unique God-given purposes in life. Will life sometimes throw it’s curveballs and things do not turn out the way they’re supposed to , yes! Does it happen that sometimes you need to take a longer route than others to get where you want to go, of course and it’s OKAY! As long as you FOCUS on you and your own race you will be fine, you will pick yourself up, get back on the road and slay your goals.

We are the BODY OF CHRIST, meaning that we are different parts with unique functions each IMPORTANT and NEEDED for the body to survive.

quote-value-self

“We are all created unique and special. God is the potter and we are the clay. He made us all perfect having our own uniqueness. Some people have blue eyes, brown eyes, some people can do this, some people can do that, some people are right handed, some people are left handed. You were made for a purpose.

God has a plan for everyone and we are all an individual member of the body of Christ. You are a masterpiece…”

Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

1 Peter 4:10-11 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
