Lecrae-Identity Ft. Da T.R.U.T.H and J.R
This one is an oldie from what some regard as Lecrae`s best album ever. The American rapper really created a classic because the message in this song will never get old. It speaks about something that a lot of people struggle with at some point in life. Identity. The encouragement in the song is for us to quit looking for identity in created things but rather to pursue it in the knowledge of Christ. Enjoy.
Sinach – I Know Who I Am
I know Who I Am is a song that hold a special place in the hearts of the many African people who are familiar with this amazing Nigerian singer, Sinach. The song is very uplifting and motivating with its inspiring lyrics. It reminds of who we are in Christ and the power and favor that God has placed on our lives to be victors and conquerors in all things. I hope it blesses you.
Purewood – Can’t Win
Purewood is a Zimbabwean artist based in the United States and he has been doing music for a number of years. Last year he released this very inspirational song that I feel is so relevant to this present generation. The song talks about the pressures we face in day to day life trying to compete with the people around us for meaning and relevance. Purewood with his acoustic guitar and soothing vocals encourages us to let go of the pressure and lean into our own gifts and abilities because winning is not the same for everyone.
Tenth Avenue North-You Are More
The American band, Tenth Avenue North is one of my favorite bands of all time and this song is one of the reasons why I love their music so much. The music to it so emotive and amazing and lyrics feel like its God Himself speaking to you. It reminds us that our identity is not determined by our past because Jesus through His death and resurrection has made us new so that we are more than our past. I’m sure this one will really get you to a place where you feel the love of God.
Courtney Antipas – Be Yourself
Be yourself by the Zimbabwean rapper Courtney Antipas is a very powerful song that speaks life to the African kid. He speaks into issues of identity and all the negative labels that Africans have been given by the global society for example how most Africans are not expected to reach certain levels of greatness because of their heritage. Courtney attacks all this negativity and encourages the African youth to embrace their identity and believe that God has made them for greatness.
