The royal wedding was on this weekend and though I didn’t stream it I know for a fact that it was a grand affair. I bet it was made out of the stuff that brings fairytale dreams to reality. Just the word royal paints the image of high quality resources and painstaking effort in ensuring that the day would be perfect.

I can imagine the calls that went around, the jobs that were on the line if things weren’t up to scratch and the nervous running around that took place probably from months before the big day. It just got me thinking if a kingdom in the world can organise and enjoy such grand festivities what more of us children in the kingdom of the most High God. What grand affairs take place in our lives that those who are outside of the kingdom watch with awe and adoration?

We are saved!!

Being saved is the single most important event of our lives and from the day we make the decision our lives are never the same again. It is very much like accepting the perfect marriage proposal from a groom who will never raise a hand to your face.

One who will renew his mercies towards you every morning, one who may allow your weeping to endure for a night but only because he knows he can bring joy for breakfast the very next morning. A groom who could lay down his life for you just because his father so loved the world, a groom who can rise up from the dead and with His resurrection permanently call life into your own dead bones.

The story may not be broadcast on International News channels but there is a place where great jubilation takes place when you say “I Do”. Just because you are adopted into a new family all things have no choice but to come together for your good. There is no weapon that can ever be formed against you that can prevail and even when there is no breath left in your body all is not lost.

We are kept

Time and chance happen to us all but favour is our Father’s unmerited gift fuelled by His undying love for us regardless of our colossal mess-ups. We don’t get what we deserve we get exceedingly, abundantly above our expectations and His grace shields us from the greedy tax man (accuser of the brethren).

I don’t know if any of you have ever experienced this when you’re so lost in thought that you walk out into the road and a speeding car misses you literally by a hair. I don’t know many things but I know that I have never ever slept on an empty stomach because I didn’t have anything to eat, I have never had to hide for fear of exposing my nakedness from a lack of clothes.

I have never had to sleep on the street for lack of a roof over my head and to this day I have never had to bear the sorrow of burying either of my parents. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I hope you are counting some blessings right about now. You don’t even have to think further than yesterday and all the things that happened then.

Somebody was in ICU at some point in their life but they woke up, somebody was ready to leave their wife and kids but they changed their heart and now they are a happy family, somebody was about to murder you on the street for money you don’t have but they didn’t, you walked past that dark alley and made it home alive yet again drunk as you were, somebody almost didn’t wake up this morning but because God willed it they did. If that doesn’t say God is a keeper I don’t what does.

We are loved beyond measure

Like a mother He nurtures us from our infancy being everything we need until such a time as we begin to explore. When we fall he lifts us up, when we cry He dries our tears, when we are hurt He binds our wounds and teaches us how to stand up again. Like a mother He defends us fiercely against those that would run their mouths about us even killing predators that threaten our well being.

Even when we reject Him and rebel against His word He slaughters the fattest cow when we finally come home. Even when we bring our shattered selves to Him He beautifies our brokenness and he displays us like his finest China at grand tables where our enemies may see our Cinderella story earn us the happy ending we always wanted.

Royal weddings will always be royal affairs, but salvation will always be the most royal affair of my lifetime. Lights and cameras will come and go but His love is everlasting. My prayer today is that we never forget whose we are and the deeply joyful intricacies that lie in that relationship..Amen
