In the next couple of days, local rapper and Pastor Courtney Antipas is teaming up with two other artists to do a joint Africa tour. We sat down with him and he gave us the 411 on the tour and the drive behind it.
There isn’t much activity in the Christian hip-hop scene locally at the moment in terms of shows. While the Lecrae Tour is really exciting, its only starting in June so one of the major drives for them is to get things going and give people something to enjoy and get a chance to interact with the people behind music.
Exposure is Another thing he emphasized as a major driver for this Tour. They want people in different countries to become more aware of the fact Christian hip hop is bigger than what is happening in their own individual countries. Usually as fans we get zoned in on what happing on our own scenes we don’t notice that there other people out there who also doing a great job at representing the faith in rap music and we can actually benefit from tapping into what they are doing.
Joining him on the tour is Blaque Nubon from South Africa. Blaque Nubon is a Christian Hip-hop artist and producer who has been in the industry for a number of years. His latest album called Exile Republic was released 2017 and it has some really good songs like Imago Dei and Songs like us ft. Courtney Antipas.
Malawi`s David Kalilani is the third rapper that will also be a part of the tour. He is considered one of the most influential Christian rappers in his own country and has paved the way for many other rappers in the Christian hip-hop industry. His lasted album, released earlier this year has been doing well with songs like Soul on fire and Heaven is smiling ft. Lilly million.
This tour will be a Great opportunity to grow the local Christian hip-hop community beyond individual countries and create a more unified movement across the various African countries. Its promising to be explosive and the most important thing is the work of of the kingdom of God advancing through Hiphop. If you’re a Hip-hop fan be sure to check out these three when they come to your country.
