To Watch: Finding My Identity in Christ by Priscilla Shirer
One of the key things to understand about having your identity in Christ, is that it is your identity in Christ. Not your family’s identity in Christ, not your friend’s identity in Christ, not your boyfriend or girlfriend’s identity in Christ; it is your own personal identity in the Lord. This is what preacher, Priscilla Shirer came to understand.
Growing up in what she calls a “church family”, Priscilla always identified as a Christian. But after leaving the safety of her home and meeting people with different ideologies, beliefs and morals than hers, she soon had to decide whether that identity remained true or not. She had to choose whether or not she would make her faith in God her own.

To Do: Remind Yourself Who You Are
Before you were your mother’s daughter or your father’s son, before you were a citizen in any country, before you were a member of any race, before you belonged to anyone on this earth, you belonged to God. You belonged to the One who chose you from the foundation of the earth. (Ephesians 1:4) You are a child of God and you will be a child of God long after this earth fades.
So if you find yourself losing sight of who you are in the blur of social media feeds or in the sound of everyone’s expectations. Or if you feel like you can’t really identify with any culture, race or place. Remind yourself of who you are and will always be – a Child of God.
Bible Verse: 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…
As a Christian, you are chosen, royal, holy and special. How amazing! This is what Peter tells us in this verse by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He reveals to us what God says about us and how He sees each of us.
Furthermore, Peter also reveals that we were are chosen, holy, royal and special so that we can proclaim God’s praises. Therefore, this verse not only give us identity but purpose as well!
So, if you ever find yourself struggling with your identity, read this verse and let it remind you of who you are. Meditate on it and remember that your purpose and your identity lie in God. Amen.
