To Listen: On The Altar by UPPERROOM (feat. Elyssa Smith)

The altar is well-known as a place of sacrifice, of worship and of obedience. Listening to this song by UPPERROOM you will see that is true.

“On The Altar”, is a simple but powerful song of surrender and sacrifice that urges us as Romans 12:2 does, to be “living sacrifices.”

As you listen and enter into this atmosphere of worship, may you be strengthened to obey God in all He has asked you, knowing that He is “worth what He asked for.”

To Do: Trust in God by Looking at Your Track Record

In order to fully obey God you have to trust Him. That is, you have to believe that what He has commanded is for your good. You have to believe that He is in control. You have to believe that He is with you and that all His plans are good.

It’s true that trusting can be easier said than done. But a good way to remember God’s faithfulness and goodness is by looking at your track record with Him.

Look back and remember the ways He has helped you before, pulled through for you before. Look back and remember what happened when you obeyed God and what happened when you didn’t.

When you do this, you will be enabled to trust and obey Him again, in whatever situation you are in.

Bible Verse: 1 Samuel 15:23 (NKJV)

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,

And stubbornness is as the iniquity and idolatry.

Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,

He also has rejected you from being king.

It’s easy to talk about the wonderful rewards that come from obeying God. But you must not forget the dire consequences that come with disobeying Him.

As this verse reveals if you reject God’s Word, the outcome will not be pleasant. In Saul’s case, disobedience meant losing the kingship. In another case, disobedience could mean losing your life.

Furthermore, disobedience is sin. In the eyes of God, it is the same as practising witchcraft, iniquity and idolatry. So why do it?

As you meditate on this verse and think over it in your heart, may God reveal to you the importance of obeying Him. May He also show you areas in your own life you fail to obey. As He does pray that His Holy Spirit enables you to obey next time you are commanded to.
