To Do: Examine Yourself First
Pride can open your eyes to other people’s faults and make you blind to your own faults. It can lead to self-righteousness and a “holier than thou” attitude, neither of which you should cultivate as a Christian.
But if you are going to overcome pride, you will need to start examining yourself. This means instead of being quick to point out other people’s flaws, look at your own. Instead of magnifying other people’s mistakes, look at your own.
Remember that you cannot change anyone else but you can, by the help of the Holy Spirit, change yourself. So start with yourself.
Bible Verse: James 4:6 (NKJV)
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.
Pride may be difficult to let go of but it’s worth the effort. As this verse reveals, God resists the proud. This means that He does not draw close to them or use them to advance His kingdom. Therefore, pride is not something you want to hold onto as a Christian.
Instead, seek humility. As you meditate on this verse, ask the Lord to show you ways you can do that and overcome your pride.
