To Do: Forgive Yourself
I can’t forgive myself.
This thought often runs through people’s mind in the wake of mistakes. Maybe you hurt someone you loved or let someone down. Maybe you disobeyed God. Whatever it is, it keeps haunting you and you just can’t let it go.
But you must remember that God has forgiven you of your past, present and future sins. He is not holding anything against you. So why should you hold anything against yourself?
If you lean into God’s mighty grace and remember that He has forgiven you and died to take away your sin, you can find the strength to forgive yourself.
Bible Verse: 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Often, when people make mistakes their first instinct is to hide them. They don’t want anyone to see that they aren’t perfect. Or maybe they are afraid of the consequences.
But as Christians we are taught not to hide but to stand bravely in the light and confess. The verse above promises that when we confess our sins, God forgives and cleanses us. This doesn’t mean that people will always be as kind or forgiving.
But you can take comfort in knowing that God will always be. His grace more than covers our mistakes and He promises to turn them around for good.
