The waiting season is often one of the hardest seasons to be in. It can be a very long season, full of expectation and sometimes doubt. Having to pause and wait on what God has promised you can be challenging. But that is what this the waiting season calls you to do; stop and wait.
But waiting does not have to be a negative thing. The waiting season can be a time of great growth and there are things you can do to make the most of it.
What to Do in the Waiting Season
Waiting can be hard, especially when it looks like nothing is happening. But what you must know is that the war we fight as Christians is not a physical one but a spiritual one. (Ephesians 6:12) That means all great change takes place in the spiritual realm.
So don’t despair if things seem to be taking a long time to happen. Be assured that something is taking place. It may just take some time so see it.
In the meantime, instead of spending the waiting season worrying and doubting, use the season to redeem the time and get into the Word.
Get into the Word
A good way to spend your time during the waiting season is getting into the Word. Go back to the promises that God made you in the Bible. Read His word and let it revive you.
If you get into the Word it will remind you that God is a faithful God. (Jeremiah 3:22-23) What He promises He will do. (Isaiah 46:11) Nothing is too hard for Him. (Genesis 18:14)
Reading the Word during the trying time of the waiting season, will build your faith. It will strengthen you and it will encourage you.
Meditate on God’s Promises
Meditating on God’s promises is another good thing to do during the waiting season. Meditation will go hand in hand with reading the Word.
The promises you meditate on will come primarily from the Bible. So it is important to continuously think over what God has spoken to you in the Word. You need to remember every promise He has made to you.
If there are passages of Scripture that the Spirit has quickened in your heart, put them on paper. Write down anything you believe God has promised you. Stick those promises where you can see them and look at them as often as possible. Read over them.
This will help you get vision for what you are waiting for. It will strengthen your faith eyes, and your ability to see those things that are yet to come. (Hebrews 11:1)
Pray
Turning to prayer is also a great way to strengthen yourself during the waiting season.
As you pray, and especially if you pray in the Spirit, you will build yourself up. (1 Corinthians 14:4) You will also give thanks well to the Lord. (1 Corinthians 14:17)
It is always important to praise before your see any breakthrough. You must offer thanksgiving before you receive anything. This is what it means to walk by faith.
Prayer will also keep in you in fellowship with God. When you pray, you are coming into the presence of God. In God’s presence there is joy. (Psalms 16:11) So by praying you are filling yourself with joy. This will help combat any fear or anxiety that may come during the waiting season.
Give Thanks
Another important thing to do as you wait, is give to thanks. Doubts and questions may arise during the waiting season, but don’t forget that at the end of the day it is the Lord’s will that will prevail. His promises to you will come true. (2 Corinthians 1:20)
So give thanks to the Lord by faith. Thank Him for what He has already accomplished. Fill your mouth with praise and thanksgiving. Not only will this bless the Lord. But it will make the waiting easier.
The more you magnify the Lord the more you fears and doubts will diminish. In their place will be a bold confidence and faith in God’s faithfulness and the assurance that His promise to you will come true.
Take Courage
If you find yourself in the waiting season remember, never once has an enemy prevailed against the Lord. So don’t be afraid. God will not fail you.
All you need to do as you look for His word to come to pass is give thanks, meditate, pray and lean on His Word. Be strong and courageous. Know that the Lord is with you as you wait. Focus on Him.
When you do this you will grow and be strengthened and you will find that the waiting season will pass faster than you think.
