Procrastination is the number one killer of dreams and productivity. You set your goals at the start of the year, the start of the month, the start of the week and you tell yourself I am going to do A B and C. The end of the year comes, the end of the month comes, the end of the week comes and you have done absolutely nothing to achieve your set goals. You get to the end of the day and you wonder where your time went?

What exactly did I do with my day is a question I often ask myself on days I feel like I wasted time. On such days I wonder why some people seem to be more productive than I am yet we all have the same 24 hours. The difference between productive and unproductive people is that productive people know how to number their days.

“Teach us to number our days

so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90: 12

Teach Us To Number Our Days

“Teach us to number our days” is a reminder that we are not on this earth forever. This challenges me to want to do better with my time, to be purposeful with my days, to make sure at the end of each day I have earned my sleep because I would have worked hard and produced some results. Of course not all days are going to reap a harvest, some days may just be for sowing but the key thing to understand is that in order to be productive, I have to number my days. As a child of God I am in no way exempt from this principle, I have the same 24 hours that unbelievers have so I have to learn to number my days.

Gain A Heart Of Wisdom.

Once I understand the importance of numbering my days it leads me to an understanding that each day is a gift from God. Having this in mind drives me to make each day count no matter how horrible a day I am having. Counting each day as a gift from God is the heart of wisdom that King David was speaking of in this verse. This revelation pushes me to make sure that at the end of each day, I go to bed with a grateful heart thanking God for having lived through another day regardless of the challenges that came with the day. Gaining a heart of wisdom also means accepting the lessons that each day brings. I believe each day brings with it its fair share of lessons; be it in the daily reading and meditation of God’s word or lessons from interacting with other people, there are always lessons.

In these remaining weeks of 2016, learn to number your days and gain a heart of wisdom by making each day count and accepting the lessons that each day brings.
