I never looked at it this way until my eyes were truly open. It’s amazing how revelation can sit right in front of you and not have a clue until God opens our eyes. Allow me to add some substance to that. Today my heart settled on the book of Genesis and the journey of Abram to his blessing. We learn from Chapter 12 that God called Abram to a place he would show him but in order for him to see it he needed to leave what was home.

*1 Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” – Genesis 12:1-3

Fascinating stuff! So Abram leaves everything that is comfortable to him at the behest of God. What’s interesting is that Lot is said to have gone with him. It’s not clear whether Abram asked Lot to go with him but Lot went nonetheless. Fast forward to the drama that surfaced when Lot and Abram’s shepherds started beefing over wells to drink from. We then see Abram and Lot parting ways. What’s absolutely astounding at this point is what happens after these 2 gentlemen resolve to part ways. God speaks

**14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,
15 for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.
16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.
17 Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.”
18 So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD . – Genesis 13:14-18*

So what revelation was dropped on my heart here. Well Abram was only shown the place God had called him to when he was separated from Lot. Abram’s blessing was not in Lot it was in God. The other cool thing we learn is that with Abram’s movement came the building of an altar to the LORD. Abram sought after the Lord as he went on this journey and with each stop along the way looked for God’s instructions in most cases.

I mentioned earlier that we don’t know if Lot was asked to come along or followed Abram but by my estimation this journey was for Abram to take with God, some weening had to happen away from comfort zones, and the ease of being near the familiar. It was a walk with God that landed us where we each are today. So what has this got to do with you? Well you and I need to understand that there will be moments in our lives where God calls us as individuals to walk with Him to a place He will show us and we can’t go with anyone else in order to see His promise. We’ve got to walk it out alone with Him.

Some of us enjoy the privilege of driving. We get on the highway towards our intended destination knowing fully well that there are likely going to be other vehicles headed in the same direction, possibly to the same destination but with different intentions or instructions. We all have a unique purpose and calling from God that we must do without LOT. We can’t take people along or the familiar if we expect to hear God clearly. Walking with God is about FAITH in God. Your blessing is not in him who tags along, him that doesn’t seek God’s counsel every step of the way. You blessing is not in Lot.

Your blessing is in the one who gave you the keys to the vehicle and told you to go. Though vehicles share the highway each driver has a destination different from the next. We are not on the same journey but we all have assignment, the question is whether we choose to complete IT by His instructions. It’s time to go to that place He will show you.
